Description
These data were collected as part of a PhD study 'Application of participatory design to facilitate social innovation concept with third sector organisations'.
The research explores how Participatory Design (PD) can support Third Sector Organisations (TSOs) in designing Social Innovation (SI) concepts. While PD is widely studied, there is limited research that focuses on TSOs as both co-designers and beneficiaries. Therefore, this study aims to enhance understanding of how PD can facilitate SI concepts with and for TSOs.
The study makes both theoretical and practical contributions. It proposes a PD framework that places TSOs at the centre of the design process, making them both co-designers and beneficiaries of SI outcomes. The framework offers guidelines for conducting participatory design with TSOs, serving as a resource for researchers and practitioners. As a practical contribution, the research presents five innovative concepts that address existing challenges in the third sector, with potential for real-world implementation.
A qualitative approach was used, incorporating case studies of small TSOs engaged in PD-driven SI initiatives. The dataset includes qualitative data from participatory workshops: 4 focus groups and 4 ideation workshops. Three focus groups and three Ideation workshops were conducted online through Microsoft Teams software. The recordings and the transcripts were done using Teams software. The fourth focus group and the fourth Ideation workshop were conducted face-to-face, but recorded and transcribed also using Teams software.
Date of production: 2021-2022.
The data cannot be shared as an open access dataset due to the nature of the data and the risk of disclosure for participants.
