Description
The data were collected as part of a Masters By Research project. The aim of the study was to establish if and what barriers transgender adults face when accessing gym facilities in the UK and establish solutions to these barriers.
Criteria for selection were that all participants had to identify as transgender or equivalent, be aged 18 years old or older and be currently residing in the UK. Total - the participation for this survey was N=287. This study used a primarily quantitative approach supplemented by a secondary qualitative analysis. Specifically, a survey, with a combination of closed and open questions. Recruitment was conducted online through social media platforms, newsletters, memos from partner organisations and word of mouth. The survey was hosted on Survey Hero.
The final survey used in this study consisted of 25 closed questions and 4 open questions, grouped into five general areas (i.e., demographics, exercise history, attitude to exercise in relation to transition, barriers and solutions, and impact of solutions).
