Description

Data were collected as part of a PhD project 'Social play in competitive contexts. Exploring community, sociability and sociality through team-based competitive video games, relating activities and spaces'.

This dataset comprises 7 shorts semi-structured transcribed interviews with players in a gaming cafe and 38 long semi-structured transcribed interviews with regular players of competitive video games.

Participants were queried on their gaming habits, playing with friends and others, their perspectives on communities, gaming and game communities, activities beyond gameplay (streaming, cosplay, art, etc.), gaming events and spaces, esports, and their perceptions of anti-social/toxic behaviours in online competitive games.

This dataset cannot be shared open access due to some information form inconsistencies, but may be accessible on request for authenticated researchers under specific conditions. Please use the contact details to request access to the dataset.
