Personal profile

Personal profile

I’ve been a lecturer at Abertay for over 20 years - first in the School of Computing and now in Dundee Business School.

My experience is mainly in the area of business development and my current interests include project management, operations and systems management.

I’ve been involved in a large number of industry consultancy projects over the years, ranging from the development of online systems to training sessions.

My teaching is very practice-oriented - I like students to ‘get their hands dirty’ by trying out tools and techniques used in the world of work.  This often means working with local businesses to help solve real business problems.

My current interests include the introduction of business and entrepreneurship in non-business related subject areas, qualification leveling using SCQF and articulation from college to university.

Teaching

My current teaching is in the areas of:

  • Project Management

  • Operations Management

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Supervision of development projects at Masters level

I am interested in innovative methods of delivery, particularly those which increase student participation, and have recently experimented with live on-line lectures and using a dialogic model of feedback for assessment.  These were very well received by the students who volunteered to take part.

Research interests

I have recently completed work on a project funded by SCQF examining skills gaps within the Creative Industries and in particular Computer Games.  This project has led to an ambitious project looking at he development of business skills for all students from school through to University across Scotland.  This new project has attracted funding from the Matthew Trust to help us develop business knowledge and skills within non-business students
