Personal profile
Personal profile
I am a postdoctoral researcher at Abertay University specialising in experimental psychology and design-focused research for public-facing digital systems.
I am currently leading UX research and co-design on GRAPHIA, a Horizon Europe–funded project developing the first comprehensive Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) Knowledge Graph. My role focuses on translating rigorous research evidence into usable design artefacts within complex stakeholder and governance environments, where research decisions and documentation are subject to internal and external scrutiny.
My academic background is in social cognition. I completed a PhD at the University of Aberdeen, where my thesis examined mechanisms of social agency: the sense of agency in social interaction. This work has resulted in peer-reviewed journal publications and presentations at major European conferences, including ESCOP and ESCAN. I have also contributed to academic service through session chairing and invited panel judging.
Alongside my academic research, I am the founder and editor of an independent outdoor and travel publication. This editorial work complements my academic practice by strengthening my ability to synthesise complex material, communicate clearly to broad audiences, and exercise judgement under real-world constraints.
Research interests
Experimental psychology and social cognition
Experimental investigation of social agency, attention, and time perception in social and non-social contexts. My work draws on behavioural paradigms and neurophysiological measures to examine how agency are experienced over time in interactive contexts.
Human-centred UX research and co-design
Qualitative and mixed-methods UX research for complex digital platforms, including participatory co-design, stakeholder research, and evaluation of research infrastructures operating within public and governance-heavy environments.
Methods and analysis for complex behavioural data
Application of advanced experimental methods and statistical approaches, including eye-tracking (head-mounted, desktop, and mobile systems), EEG, and mixed-effects modelling, in laboratory and applied research contexts.
