Personal profile

I am a PhD researcher in Games Technology and Mathematics, specialising in serious and applied games. My work explores how game design and interactivity can be used to raise awareness of conservation, ecology, and the natural world.

Before returning to academia, I spent over 15 years working as a software engineer, including more than a decade in the video games industry. I am also the founder of an early‑stage startup developing a serious game aimed at improving public awareness of conservation challenges.

I hold a Bachelor of Computing (BComp) from the University of Tasmania and a Master of Science (MSc) with a specialisation in bioinformatics from the University of Turku.

Pigeon Walk!

Dundee Science Festival, February 2026

Pigeon Walk! is a community engagement event created for the Dundee Science Festival 2026 in collaboration with RSPB Scotland. The activity sits within the Columbidae Codex research project, which examines how people notice and relate to urban wildlife, focusing on the everyday presence of pigeons. During the walk, participants look closely at pigeons, explore differences in plumage, and record their sightings using a map designed for the event. Their observations help build a growing digital “codex” that captures the rich variety of pigeon appearances across the city of Dundee.
