Ioannis J Vourganas is currently a Lecturer at Abertay University in the school of design and informatics.  

He holds a PhD in Ethical/Trustworthy AI & Data Science an M.Sc. in Electronic & Electrical Engineering, and two undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering with computing science and electronic and electrical engineering respectively. 

In the past, he has participated in various research projects collaborating as a Research Fellow at Abertay University with Macmillan Cancer research (My Cancer mAI Care project).  

Through research associate roles in the Universities of Cambridge, Glasgow,  Edinburgh & Google (OAK project), the University of Glasgow ( in various projects which were linked to industrial partners) and the University of Strathclyde (ClearBall as well as IBM project). 

He is an accredited tutor of AWS, and for the last three years, he has served  as a tutor at the University of Glasgow  in the department of computing science participating  in various teaching activities in the modules of:

Systems Programming, Operating Systems, Big Data, AI and Databases, Research Methods And Professional Studies.

He has participated in various conferences and lately, he has been a member of the organising committee of the IEEE I3CAT conference as a publication chair. 

He is a regular reviewer for various journals such as MDPI and Springer.

Due to his previous studies, his contribution to knowledge in neurological disorders and his research in rehabilitation he is an affiliate member of the Strathclyde ageing network  

Before changing his path to an academic-oriented career, he served the industry for approximately 17 years, in various roles, starting from application engineer to research scientist and continuing in more managerial roles. He has worked closely with small and large-scale companies on various industrial applications and projects.
