José David Gómez was born in Quito-Ecuador, trained as a Sociologist, and received a PhD from the University of Edinburgh in Science, Technology, and Innovation Studies. He works for Abertay University as a Postdoctoral Researcher for the GAME-ER project.
GAME-ER is a European research project studying the video games industry and how it consolidates around clusters across mid-sized cities in several countries in Europe, including Dundee. The other clusters are in Italy (Turin), France (Lyon and Bordeaux), the Czech Republic (Brno), and Portugal (Fundao).
By conducting interviews and archival research it aims to gain insights into the genesis and evolution of these clusters to gain understanding of the perspectives, stories, needs, resources, and challenges that have been present, and how these have developed over time. The goal is to provide evidence for public policy on how to better support the video gaming industry in these cities and similar contexts moving forward.
José David specializes in interdisciplinary ethnography and his research includes the social, cultural, and technoscientific dimensions of how we experience and shape time, the interaction of large infrastructures with ecologies and territories, and the social value of innovation.
