ACCA Member (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)

I’m a Chartered Accountant with a PhD in Accounting from the University of Edinburgh.
My research interests involve looking at accounting as a social practice and moving beyond the conventional assumption of rational decision-making.
I’m particularly interested in the interface between accounting and organisational studies.  For example, what role do emotions and group dynamics play in institutional change? How do institutions enable and constrain management and accounting changes in the public sphere? And how does accounting facilitate power shifts during management accounting changes?
I sit on the Board of Trustees for Dundee Independent Advocacy Support (DIAS).
In 2017 I was nominated as 'Outstanding Teacher' by the Abertay Students Association.

I have been involved in the teaching of various modules:

AC0705A / ANF103 Financial and Management Accounting

AC0803A / ANF104 Information Systems

AC0816 Group FInancial Accounting

ANF201 Financial Accounting

ANF303 Advanced Financial Accounting

ANF304 Advanced Management Accounting

Research interests

My research interests lies in viewing accounting as a social practice, especially the interface between accounting and organizational studies. Firstly, I am interested in examining how institutions – the socio-cultural elements – enable and constrain management accounting changes in the public sphere, a more complicated organizational context. Secondly, I am interested in how accounting facilitates power shifts during management accounting changes. Thirdly, I am interested in the translation of management accounting/performance management techniques in the public sector, especially how individuals (professionals) at the intersection of changes reconcile multiple institutional logics/vocabularies to promote institutional changes. Fourthly, I’m interested in investigating the role of emotions and group dynamics in the processes of institutional changes. Fifthly, I’m interested in strategic practices in unique organisations.

I was nominated as 'Outstanding Teacher' by Students Association in 2017.

I am a Board of Director/Trustee for Dundee Independent Advocacy Support (DIAS) since 2016.
