My research interests are focused on reproductive physiology – in particular, the regulation of sperm function. In collaboration with Professor Chris Barratt at the University of Dundee and NHS Tayside, I’m investigating ion channel (dys)function in human sperm. From a research perspective, I’m also interested in pedagogic research in online teaching.

I completed my PhD in Neuroscience at University College London.  Before joining Abertay University as a lecturer, I held postdoctoral research positions at University College London and the University of Dundee. My research experience includes investigating the electrophysiological and molecular analysis of GIRK channels, and the intracellular signalling pathways controlling ENaC expression.

I have previously acted as an external examiner for the Biotechnology degree at the Modern Science and Arts University in Cairo, Egypt.

Dr. Brown has a pedagogic research interest in the area of online teaching/learning and assessment.

Dr. Brown is currently working in collaboration with Professor Chris Barratt at the University of Dundee and NHS Tayside working on the pathophysiology of human sperm.  His background is as an electrophysiologist (patch clamp) and has an interest in the molecular control of ion channel function and is currently involved in a studying examining ion channel (dys)function in human sperm.

Dr. Brown has been the recipient of Tenovus Scotland, Carnegie Scotland, Medical Research Council and Chief Scientist office grants.

External examiner for Biotechnology degree at  Modern Science and Arts University, Cairo, Egypt (2012-14).
