Personal profile

Personal profile

I currently teach Management and Human Resource Management on our undergraduate programmes.

As a placement tutor for some of our business and management programmes, I work closely with local businesses to create new opportunities for our students which will enhance their employability and give them invaluable hands-on experience.

My background is in Hospitality Management. I previously held management posts for Trusthouse Forte and Sutcliffe Catering (Australia) and taught Hospitality Management for many years at Fife College, Dundee University and briefly at Abertay University.

I hold a Masters in Business Administration and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching.

I’m a member of the Chartered Management Institute and an academic member of CIPD.

Teaching

My teaching is in the area of management and human resource management. I teach several modules in these areas including: MT0719A Introduction to organisational Theory; MT0822A Organisational Behaviour; MT0928A The Role of Human Resource Management; MT0935A Recruitment, Selection and Talent Management. I am also responsible for sourcing, organising and managing MT0945A Business and Management placement module for students on Business Studies, Management and Human Resources Management Programmes. I also contribute to FC0908/9/10 Professional Practice in the School of Science, Engineering and Technology. I also supervise undergraduate final year projects on Business and Administration programme and dissertations on Human Resource Management, Management and Business Studies Programmes and post graduate dissertations on MSc Human Resource Management.

Funding

Was awarded £345 HEA UK travel fund grant to enable myself and a colleague to attend the ASET (Pofessional body for placement and employability staff) annual conference in 2012. The shared best paractices, knowledge and experiences enabled me to  further develop and enhance the Business and management placement module and improve the student experience.

Esteem

Shortlisted for Best Platform for Employment Student Led Teaching Award 2014

Shortlisted for Outstanding Teacher Dundee Business School Student Led Teaching Award 2014

Outreach

In my capacity as module tutor for the business and management placement module I contact and visit local businesses to raise awareness of our placement module and persuade them as to the value of placements for both students and their organisation. The network of organisations involved is steadily growing with many organisations offering placements time again.

I also attend as many local CIPD events as possible to engage in networking with HR professionals.

I invite speakers from industry to talk to students on my modules.
