Abstract
Capacity requirements for multiple-access demand-assigned communication systems are broken down into information, demand and assignment signalling. A simultaneous-transmission scheme for demand signalling greatly reduces the bit rate incurred by polling. More generally, bits required by demand signalling are calculated and shown to be an appreciable part of the total for certain message types.
