Abstract
Sustainability and the Circular Economy will determine much of the structure of future life. As an interdisciplinary subject, Mechatronics can contribute a great deal to the achievement of sustainability goals. On the one hand, Mechatronic systems influence a wide variety of processes and contribute to longevity, energy efficiency and waste avoidance. On the other, mechatronic products should fulfil sustainable criteria. In this chapter, the various factors influencing sustainability within. A Mechatronics context are discussed and analysed and explicitly applied in a case study.
