Abstract

This case study follows Nisha, a first-generation British-Asian woman, as she pursues her dreams and grows her small business into a thriving enterprise, using her passion, resilience and creativity. The case study's protagonist, Nisha Bajwa (not her real name), is a businesswoman who has created a café called Nashtaa Café. The café was established two years ago within a local hotel. Her original idea was to provide hotel guests with breakfast, but later in her journey she is considering how to expand her business. This case study examines the steps involved in starting a new business and the various factors that can influence those steps from an opportunity-based entrepreneurship perspective. From Nisha's journey, this case study will examine the effectuation process of entrepreneurship in terms of who she is (identity, skills, background), what she knows (knowledge) and who she knows (social network). The study's primary purpose is to shed light on the establishment and growth of small businesses led by women in the United Kingdom.
