Abstract
Discusses the customs controls to prevent the importation of counterfeit goods into the European Union under Regulation 1383/2003. Describes the procedure for customs authorities to seize and detain suspected counterfeits on their own initiative or at the intellectual property owners' request. Commends the advantages of Regulation 1383/2003 over the previous legislation. Reviews European Court of Justice cases on customs seizure.
