Abstract
This chapter explores the effectiveness of police forces in building, developing and maintaining an inclusive workforce. It highlights the requirement for organisations to audit their workforce and demand profile to ensure that both align. It uses case studies of the two forces rated as outstanding by the PEEL Assessment process. The key concepts explored include the psychological contract, employer value proposition (EVP) and an inclusive workforce. The critical role of executive sponsorship and commitment to these programmes designed to support these concepts is identified and discussed. Best practice programmes are identified in the case study areas that have proven impact on early career retention and employee well-being. It is identified that Force Management Statements provide a valuable tool for workforce planning but recognised that additional employee lifecycle planning is required. The chapter call for law enforcement organisations to invest in talent development, leveraging data analytics, executive support and inclusive practices to enhance workforce efficiency.
