Abstract

The McManus, Dundee's Art Gallery and Museum, hosted an exhibit dedicated to Mary Slessor, a missionary from Dundee who lived and worked amongst the Okoyong and Efik people in Africa. While there, she became fluent in the native dialects. This exhibit featured restored and digitised recordings of Slessor, captured on wax cylinders at the turn of the 20th Century, speaking in Efik, created by Dr McAlpine
