Abstract

Sound of Light is a multiplayer VR sound performance project using the Oculus Quest's hand tracking feature. The idea behind this project is to create an anonymous and non-verbal play using hand movement and sound. Born out of pandemic isolation and developed as an InGAME Cluster of the Future R&D project, it brings people together through sound and play in an environment powered by game technology. It applies innovative game design techniques to explore the aesthetics of anonymous play and pose philosophical questions about our conception of play, identity and togetherness. it was featured in the Sound: Designed in Dundee event held on 22 June 2022.

The project is funded by InGAME: Innovation for Games and Media Enterprise, part of the AHRC Creative Industries Clusters Programme. Grant Reference AH/S002871/1.
