Abstract
While some forms of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) have a place in healthcare, the majority of CAM modalities lack plausibility or good evidence of effectiveness. Several ethical requirements, based on established principles of medical ethics, must be satisfied before CAM may considered as ethically acceptable. These include competence of CAM practitioners, evidence of effectiveness, valid education, informed consent, CAM practitioner honesty, and absence of exploitation. Unfortunately, CAM largely fails to fulfil these requirements.
